Customer Need: Reducing OHS Risks, Costs, and Transition Times ın Assembly Stations
At Mirok, we partnered with Schmitz to reduce Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) risks, lower costs, and shorten transition times between assembly stations. The overhead cranes used for moving components between stations were not only increasing costs but also raising OHS risks. Additionally, this method prolonged assembly times, negatively impacting operational efficiency. Schmitz needed an effective and sustainable solution to address these issues.
Our Solution: Floor-Mounted Rails and Ergonomic Transport Carts
To ensure efficient transitions between stations, we designed a floor-mounted rail system. These rails, integrated into the overall structure, provide fast and safe transitions between all assembly stations.
For transporting the chassis, we developed ergonomically designed custom transport carts that prioritize OHS. These carts were manufactured at minimal cost and designed with worker safety in mind. To ensure smooth transitions at the rail junctions, we produced special wheels to prevent any jolting or disruptions during transport.
Additionally, we created a modular cart design, adaptable to different chassis types. This solution allows Schmitz to use a single cart for all chassis in the production process. The modular design adds flexibility and brings cost savings as well.
Project Outcome: Cost Reduction and Shorter Assembly Times
As a result of the project, the need for overhead cranes was completely eliminated, leading to a significant reduction in crane-related costs and a considerable decrease in OHS risks. Additionally, the rail system greatly shortened the transition times between assembly stations. The combination of the rail system and transport carts enhanced operational efficiency and enabled faster transitions between stations.
Through this project, Mirok once again demonstrated its expertise in delivering turnkey solutions by making Schmitz's processes safer, faster, and more cost-effective.
